The Fifth Wave (2016)

This film adaption of Rick Yancey's bestseller tells the struggles of a girl, Cassie (Chloe-Grace Moretz), to find her brother amidst an alien invasion. On the way she falls in love with Ewan (Alex Roe) whilst having a secondary school crush on Ben (Nick Robinson) who also helps save the day, eventually.

The emotions which she has to put aside for her to achieve her target is almighty and this gives Chloe-Grace Moretz a performs which should perhaps win awards. For such a young girl she shows how to present not just how her character is feeling but what the rest of the other characters are feelings. The CGI used on the film is amazing and the coordinated action is highly impressive.

I rate this film a 17/20.

Deadpool (2016)

Now, this film I have anticipating for about three years and here it is and it does not disappoint you.
It follows the story of Wade Wilson who does contracts often to kill but sometimes just to ruff up a bit. But when he meets Vanessa who sees the good in him and can see the truth behind his humour. But, when he finds out he has a life changing illness and is offered a way to stay alive.
But , that meant leaving Vanessa but perhaps he could return.

To return he has to find the man who turned him and it also turns out he cant feel pain so he need to go to extraordinary lengths and its not torture. He teams up with Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Colossus to defeat to not so super superheroes.

I rate this hilarious film 19.5 /20.

Zoolander 2 (2016)

Now, at full disclaimer to you I haven't seen the first Zoolander film I must admit the second Zoolander film was quite enjoyable. Though it was quite humorous that so many people clapped in the part where Justin Bieber dies.

So plot follows the deaths of celebrities who die with the blue steel on their face to help Derek Zoolander and Hansel to save the lives of many people and to reveal the truth about Zoolander's wife's death when she was crushed by the building which was built for 'Kids Who Can't Read Good and Who Wanna Learn to Do Other Stuff Good Too'. Plus the cameo appearances of the gender neutral Benedict Cumberbatch, Billy Zane the postman and a pregnant Kiefer Sutherland.

I rate the film a 16/20.

Star Wars : The Force Awakens (2015)

Now, I totally loved the film with its new cast with a rogue storm trooper and an orphan who has the force but, I think this seems like a remake, one of the best remakes yet still it is a remake.
An orphan finds out they have the force, they are guided by an elder gentleman and have to fight a really evil guy who refuses to see that he will loses by the third film.
Despite this I did like the use of landscaping in the film especially the end scene which was filmed on an island off of Scotland, the new cantina which apparently J.J. Abrams helped write the music for himself and how they still are using Power point slide transition between scenes.
It seems that with J.J. Abrams touch to it the plot seemed to thicken in places where the previous films would have holes to be built on. Also the fact that there was a female lead character played by a up and coming actress, Daisy Ridley and a female villain played by the Game of Thrones actress/model Gwendoline Christie .

I rate this as an independent film a 17/20.
However, as a film which is essentially a remake it rate it as an 18.5/20.

Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse (2015)

What would you do if there were a zombie apocalypse which was suddenly thrown on your town?
Well, if I were in a zombie apocalypse I would probably go to a place which was safe and unbreakable, gear up on shovels and know how to get out of any situation. Well, this would come natural to the scouts which if you watch this film you will know.
When faced with an impeding tragedy these three friends have to use their scouting knowledge to survive. Yet, they do get side tracked by a stripper, sorry I mean a Cocktail Waitress, they sing Britney Spears with a zombie and they gear-up in Home depot and get to put their archery badge to work.
With a hint of romanticism by the main scout character, Ben has to rescue the girl even after he kisses the Cocktail waitress and a hint of scary violence at the start when the outbreak starts.

I rate this film a 18/20.

Goosebumps (2015)

If you have read the books before hand, you should know some of R.L. Stine's monsters; Slappy the ventriloquist doll, the abdominal snowman of Pasadena and the Lawn Gnomes. So the story follows a kid who moves to a new town after his dad has died when his next door neighbour is an attractive girl and her dad is R.L.Stine. But, when he tries to save her from her 'abusive' father it turns out nothing looks quite as it seems. so if you open a manuscript the monster from inside comes out. SO what would you do if every Goosebumps monster ever created was trolling around your town. with some great up and coming actors and some well known actors like Jack Black and Jillian Bell.

I rate this film a 17/20.

The unfortunate subtitles for childish teenagers

So today in my Media lesson we were watching the film , Cabin in the woods, to gather codes and conventions about horror films and we do so with the subtitles on but we have reached to a bit where one of teenagers is about to take her blouse off and then a man controlling the pheromone levels in the air with a noises of him and then the subtitle explains the noise [readjusting knob].
Well my class who consists of 16 and 17 year old felt the irony was high at this moment and did not stop laughing for a good 5 minutes.
